4 weeks with you - welcome to D.C.

Hello Little  Bird!

My pregnancy apps tell me that I am now 4 weeks along.  You're the size of a poppy seed! It's hard to believe that we found out about you only a week ago!  This week we have spent a few days in Washington D.C.  We've been here before.  But I have done quite a few new things this time.  Our congressmen's staff was able to get us tours to the Library of Congress and the Capitol building.  It was cool to see the Senate floor.  It was NOT cool that the security guards made me throw away all of my food supplies I had brought along.  I had tasty nuts, some fruit, and yogurt.  I'm having a hard time getting to 4 servings of dairy a day.  So I thought yogurt would be a good idea.

Then I went off on my own to the National Cathedral for a tour and tea! It was a great time.  The cathedral looks like was built in the 1400s,.  They used ancient mason techniques to build it.  However, it was just finished in 1992!

Today I got to sleep in a bit, and then went to visit Lincoln's Cottage.  It was very interesting to learn about how President Abraham Lincoln spent 1/4 of his presidency on the grounds of the home for retired soldiers.  He likely wrote the Emancipation Proclamation in the home that I visited   He certainly made many important decisions there, and spent time with his family.

I bought one book for kids ages 4 - 8 about the civil rights movement and two boys who are friends and deal with segregation.  It is called Freedom Summer.  I want you to be comfortable with the fact that you will have two races to identify with.  You will be our bran muffin baby.  Unfortunately, not everyone in the world will treat you with love and respect.  That kills me, so we will need to teach you to be strong.

I bought another cardboard book for little kids about Lincoln.  It is so fun thinking about you holding these books in your little hands!  We can't wait for you baby.  Only 245 days (ish) until we get to meet you!

I often wonder what our bran muffin baby will look like here are a few images I found of 1/2 southern Indian and 1/2 Caucasian babies.

Positive

 Image from here.

Dear Little Bird,

Today I found out that we are pregnant!  I have been taking tests every few days for a week or so now.  Today I took one this morning so that your dad could be here.  I was surprised last night to find out that he did want to be the first one to know.  He is very chill about mos things.  So it was exciting to find out that he did want to be there for the test.  The test at first was not clearly positive.  I got up extra early to be up with him before he left for work.  I took the test, and decided to go back to bed to wait for the results.  It wasn't clearly positive and I thought it might take a few more days, so I tried not to be too upset.   I told him to check it for me in a few minutes and let me know what it said.  He came in a few minutes later and said that it seemed to be positive! I hopped out of bed to get my own look.  Sure enough, there was the test line and just below it a not quite solid line - but a line all the same! I am so thankful to God that we were able to conceive.  Your grandma Annie and grandpa Eappan work nights often, so I thought they might be up at 4:15 in the morning.  So they were the first to know! When I first called they did not answer, but then Mommy called me back.  She was so thankful and will say many prayers for you and us.  She is a woman of few words, but certainly a great woman of God.

Today I will go get a progesterone test! I have been doing natural family planning for awhile, and I might have low progesterone.  So we will get that checked out to keep you safe!

So excited for you already little bird!

- Your Mommy
